With ABB's proven technology 230 GW of renewable power could be connected to the grid.
Hydro power plants are often far from customer demand. Long distance transmission can be optimized using high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology. For shorter connections alternating current (AC) technology is an economic option.

ABB is the world's biggest supplier of electrical equipment and services to the
wind industry. This includes the ability to connect installations out to sea where cables and DC transmission are the only solution. ABB will connect one of the world's largest wind parks in the North Sea to the German grid, delivering 400 MW power over more than 100 km.
ABB's offerings for the
solar power industry cover the whole spectrum from grid connections to complete plant installations.
ABB has delivered the automation systems and electrical equipment to Europe’s first large-scale (100 MW) solar plant in Spain (Andasol)
and the complete balance of plant for the world’s first integrated combined cycle solar plant in Algeria (175 MW). A turnkey 1 MW solar concentration plant with an extremely high performance ratio of 80 percent in Spain was put in service by ABB in record time.
To help balance power in the grid, ABB offers battery
storage systems. The world's largest battery system, which can supply 26 MW for 15 minutes was equipped by ABB.
